How we work

  • We quickly identify opportunities and create significant new profits.  We set the stage for long-term continuing profit improvement.  This is all done in such a way as to bring out the best performance and good will of the people involved.  The focus is beyond cost reduction allowing for and encouraging profitable revenue growth.
  • We tap the intellectual power of your people.  Our preferred approach is one of consulting and training to enable you to immediately succeed with your own people.  Profit Improvement is accelerated with results coming within days.

    We will come to your location(s) and teach your key people in sessions that are only 1 or 2 days long how to be skilled in cost reduction and profit improvement.  They will learn how to:

     

    • Lead and manage the initiative.
    • Establish profit improvement goals both near and long-term.
    • Quickly identify potential cost reduction and profit improvement projects.  It is not uncommon to identify potentials worth tens to hundreds of millions of dollars of increased annual profits.
    • Evaluate those potentials to select viable projects consistent with overall corporate mission and goals.
    • Create action plans for immediate implementation.  These are often worth many millions of dollars of increased annual profits.
    • Monitor and manage those projects for maximum positive impact.

     

    • This is a turn-key package that enables you to continue with little to no ongoing consulting support.  We prefer this approach because it is most cost effective for you and gives you the best outlook for the future.  "Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

      You will choose this alternative if you don't want to pay large consulting fees and want to enable your people to be significant contributors to the bottom line over the long term as well as immediately.*  

      *Resourcing will require some staff time (5 - 20%) of select individuals that you can use to focus on the task of profit improvement.  Time demands are variable and can be distributed widely.

      Team training requires only 1 to 2 days.  Every 2-day trainee will leave the course with a list of dozens of potential projects and one that they will seek to implement immediately.

      The bottom line is that during our training you will generate significant savings that will pay for the consulting fees within a few weeks to a couple of months.  Your cash flow and bottom line will improve immediately and get better for years as your people apply their new skills and new thinking.  You will be independent of external consultants.  Our training and consulting ends up being free.

      You are most likely to prefer this approach if you have limited financial resources available, want to engage your people in a positive way, want to encourage an affinity toward profitability thinking and decision making, want to build for the future, and are in a hurry for results.

  • Our alternative approach is to act as the leader for the initiative.  In this capacity we start by identifying the opportunities.  We can then go on to act as the overall project manager to bring the cost reduction and profit improvement initiatives to fruition.  This is the "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day." approach.  It works well for short-term results.  You may choose this alternative if your staff is so overwhelmed that you need the extra horsepower that we can quickly bring to bear on the problem to get things done.

This may be your preferred approach if you have a limited budget and need fast results.  If does not limit your options to later engage more of your staff.

Our approach compared to others

  • The vast majority of business consulting firms take the project approach to cost reduction and profit improvement.  This is essentially our "alternative approach."  They will send in consultants to identify opportunities (Most of which will come from the minds of your staff anyway.).  They will then create projects that they will want to staff with their people. 

    You are more likely to take this approach if you are more comfortable with having outsiders do most of the work and don't mind paying large fees.  In one case, we estimated $150,000 for the complete job for a 2,500 person international company when one of the "big five" consulting firms estimated $2,000,000 just for the evaluation.

    The bottom line is that you will create savings but only those that are net of their significant fees.  In addition, the consultants will maintain key leadership and technical roles so that the knowledge and skills primarily stay with their people.  You will be reliant on external consultants for the long term.
